February Gratitude Journal Challenge Success

Can you believe it’s the last day of February already? This year is flying by too fast, although I’ll admit I’m ready to hang up my winter coat and welcome in warmer weather. February’s challenge was to write down three things each day for which I was grateful. Sounds easy, right? This one was much harder than I expected! So, how’d it go? Read on. To catch up, read this post on my Year of 30-Day Challenges.

The Goal

A lot of times I feel like I’m going through the motions and never stop to really be thankful for even the small things. I was hoping that taking the time to stop and reflect on my day would make me appreciate my life and the special things in it, even if they were ordinary.

The Success

I really loved this challenge because it made me take time to reflect on my day. At first, I started this challenge by putting too many restrictions on it. I wanted everything to be meaningful and profound, but you know what? Some days I was just grateful for my comfy bed. Once I stopped putting limits on what kind of things I was grateful for, it was easier to find all those simple, small things that I didn’t realize were doing so much for me.

It also felt wonderful to relive those things at the end of the day that made me smile. On a particularly bad day at work, a colleague of mine made me a latte to cheer me up. If you’ve been following my Insta-stories, you know I’m obsessed with my Nespresso machine! He took the time to whip up a latte for me and sat with me to talk through what was making me so uneasy. I don’t think he realized how much that latte helped, but I sure did later that night when I wrote it down as one of the things I was grateful for that day.

The Failure

It was surprisingly hard to remember to do this every day! There were a handful of days were I hustled to catch up because I’d forget and would go back and do two or three days at a time. When I did this, those three things weren’t as meaningful as reflecting on them the day they happened. I’m looking forward to the month I challenge myself to create a bedtime routine because I’d like to include taking time for gratitude every night.

Did you do the challenge with me? If so, let me know how you did in the comments!
