Publix Raspberry Elegance and Pizza Dough (Nashville)

January 30, 2010

I was first introduced to Publix way back in 1996 in Orlando, FL, but didn’t notice this grocery store as anything special until I moved back to Nashville almost 4 years ago. At that time, it was quite a drive to Publix, but having been once, I was hooked and didn’t mind passing 6 other grocery stores to get there. Finally they decided to build in my neighborhood and I’ve never been happier! Why do I love it so much? Let me introduce you to what Publix calls Raspberry Elegance

Raspberry Elegance

So, how’s it taste?

Rich, rich, rich. I love raspberry in desserts, and it’s easy to mess up with the fake stuff. Publix’s bakery is out of this world good, especially this little gem. It’s got a white chocolate icing, raspberry filling, and white cake. If you know me, I’m not a fan of icing and I pretty much refuse to eat white cake because it’s terribly boring. This is my exception! The flavors compliment each other very well and the serving is plenty for two because of it’s richness. Yummy!

Another one of my favorite things about Publix is the variety of items they sell. A lot of times when I can’t find something at another store, Publix usually has it. Reading their sale flyer, I found out about their pizza dough. In the bakery department is a small fridge and you can buy balls of pizza dough. I chose the 5-grain and filled my cart with pizza sauce, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, and goat cheese. I just made up the toppings with what I thought sounded good and I’m a cheese lover, so the more cheese the better!

So, how’s it taste?

I had never worked with fresh mozzarella over my already-shredded, bagged kind. Wowza what a difference! I put the entire ball on my pizza! All the ingredients came together very nicely and the 5-grain dough had a nice crunch to it. This was much better than anything Papa John can deliver to my house!
